PSI’s 2008 calendar celebrates traditional water harvesting structures in Uttarakhand. This beautifully designed planner cum calendar showcases some of the recently restored and renovated water harvesting structures shot by Devraj Agrawal, a Dehra Doon based photographer. The calendar is designed by Ms. Shalini Sinha with the support Dinesh Sharma, Salil Das, Ravi Chopra , Manikant Shah and Deep Chand Bisht.
“People’s Science Institute’s Jal Sanskriti programme has generated tremendous interest among common people in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh for reviving traditional water harvesting structures,” says the introduction in the calendar. The Jal Sanskriti Fellowships initiated by PSI with the support of India Friends Association (California, USA) helped restore 50 water harvesting structures. Taking a lead from this local communities have also begun to renovate water structures on their own initiative.
This year PSI aims to expand its programme through the Jal Sanskriti Fellowships to renovate and repair water harvesting structures and increase the circulation of the Jal Sanskriti Newsletter. In addition to this we will increase our efforts to popularize and undertake roof rain water harvesting. PSI gratefully acknowledges the support received from Dr. K.S. Chawla of CTC Geotechnical Pvt. Ltd.(New Delhi) and Shrikumar Poddar of the International Service Society (Michigan, USA).
